Greater Lafayette Area Special Services - GLASSThis is a 1.0 FTE position as an Autism Consultant working for the Greater Lafayette Area Special Services (GLASS) for the 2023-2024 school year. The preferred candidate will have a license in Mild or Intense Interventions. GLASS services Tippecanoe County and is located just one hour north of downtown Indianapolis and two hours south of downtown Chicago along I -65 in west central Indiana. Tippecanoe County is a growing area with a strong economic base. The Greater Lafayette Area is the home of Purdue University and the presence of the university helps to make Lafayette one of the greatest places to live in the Midwest. Reports to: GLASS Supervisor over ASD Department
Classification: Certified
Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Education (Mild or Intense) & Experience working with students with Autism
Terms of Employment: Per LSC Master Teacher Contract - 181 Days
Evaluation: Per LSC Master Teacher Contract by Supervisor
Compensation: Per LSC Master Teacher Contract Salary Schedule

Job Description
The Autism Consultant provides instructional methodology and behavioral support through training of teachers, staff, administrators, and students. The consultant conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments to guide in developing an individualized plan to support students.

Responsibilities

  • Stays abreast of current issues and research in the field of Autism
  • Works with outside agencies to facilitate needs of students, such as autism centers to facilitate the transition of students between public school and autism center
  • Provides consultation and direct supports for students
  • Attends scheduled monthly department meetings
  • Presents topics to teachers and staff, with ongoing modeling of evidence-based strategies, as appropriate
  • Builds and trains teams to develop the capacity to support their students with autism
  • Trains and supervises the Behavior Facilitators and team on data collection and assists in data reviews
  • Locates and provides interventions based on student data
    • Provides materials and supports to teachers and students as needed for student success
    • Creates visual supports for students
    • Assists in creating individualized plans based on FBA and other data
