Job Objective:
As the Social Services Assistant you will assist the Director of Social Services in the operation of the Social Services Department including Pathway of Hope, Community Services, Food Pantry, and Seasonal Programs. This position provides resources and support to individuals ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.
What You Will Do:


  • Assist the Director of Social Services, Community Services Coordinator, and Family Advocate in serving clients


    Review client applications and set case management appointments
    Refer applicants to appropriate programs at The Salvation Army and in the community
    Assist in the planning and execution of events
    Identify client needs and assist in assisting the client in accessing services
    Assist in the operation of Food Pantry by completing client intake assessments and/or assisting in completing client orders
    Complete all required documentation in SIMS (Salvation Army Information Management System) or other databases in an accurate, timely manner
    Maintain client files per Pathway of Hope and Community Services guidelines


    Other tasks as assigned by leadership

    Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.
    Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent
    Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.
    Experience: Minimum one to two years' experience in social services and/or case management
    Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete Safe from Harm training within the first 90 days of employment; Caseworker Certification Program within 120 days of hire; SIMS data training within 30 days of hire.
    Skills/Abilities:

    Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
    Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.

    Physical Requirements Include:

    Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
    Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
    May require bending, squatting, walking.

    Travel: Local travel to and from events may be required
    Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office environment.
