Together we will achieve predictable excellence. Come join and help our global team.**Job Purpose:**E currently has an opening for an End of Line (EOL) Sr. Engineer - Test/Validation. This position is located in Mossville, Illinois with responsibility for the production EOL test of all E charger, inverter, converter, and fuel cell product lines. The role will also be the backup for EOL on E battery module and battery pack product lines. The incumbent will report to the E Order to Delivery Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Decisions made by the incumbent will affect not only their own unit, but potentially, all of Caterpillar, the market, and suppliers. Those decisions will shape complex systems, multiple products within a product line, processes or factories and customers' perception of the company; and could have a significant impact on sales, warranty, and future product direction and cause an evolutionary effect on technology. The incumbent will partner with and provide technical EOL testing guidance to global engineering and supplier partner teams, recognizing that this position faces ongoing change - increased competitive pressures, increasing product complexity, and ever-increasing customer demands. You will lead the planning and delivery of complex projects, continually learn, and stay abreast of innovative technology, mentor, coach, and assign daily tasks to team members, and broaden your professional network.**Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:**+ Project leadership of E product's production EOL test processes, test plans, equipment, capacity, and utilization both currently and strategically into the future.+ Create project plans for test activities, write work instructions to train the production workforce as necessary, outline instrumentation requirements for testing, conduct testing, analyze test results, communicate findings, and write technical summary reports.+ Plan and execute testing of complex electrical systems. Validate that pilot and production level products and the occasional competitive benchmarking of other products, meet engineering requirements. Develop any unique customer requirement test setups that may be requested occasionally for a production build (ie: CE and UL type testing).+ Ensure test processes include full traceability of test results for warranty/claims review, and tests conducted at the supply base are fed into and stored in Caterpillar's systems for retention and review.+ Provide ideas for continuous improvement (CI) to the safety, quality, velocity, and cost of test operations, regularly improving testing cycle times as product confidence and testing methods matures.+ Interface with many other teams within Caterpillar for successful completion of projects, such as the E Product Group, Engineering Design Control and Validation teams, E Purchasing, LPSD Operations, consuming Caterpillar facilities' Manufacturing Engineering/Tech Services, and many other departments.+ Stay closely involved with Engineering-led early-learner and prototype builds testing and validation activities, collaborating to ensure all best practices and lessons learned are pulled into the production EOL testing process.+ Partner with E Engineering validation engineers and the E Manufacturing Engineer to develop and implement robust PFMEAs, control plans, and production test plans.+ As many products are manufactured outside of Caterpillar facilities, incumbent must work closely with supplier partners in the development and execution of complex testing requirements, which ensure the most efficient and cost-effective systems are used to validate quality-built products. Analyze the supplier's current or proposed testing designs and equipment to determine feasibility / acceptability.+ Travel to suppliers, both domestically and internationally, as new testing processes and equipment are developed and put into service and as occasional urgent needs arise.+ Review project results, risks, and recommendations with the LPSD and E leadership teams.+ Products in scope include most of E's products, such as battery module, battery pack, charger, inverter, converter, and fuel cell product lines, which could continue to expand.+ Protect Caterpillar's Intellectual Property.**Basic Qualifications:**+ Four-year Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Science, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related Engineering/Technology curriculum.+ 6+ years of related electronics hardware, power systems, electronic systems, power electronics, and/or automotive electronics testing/validation experience.+ 2+ years' experience with batteries, power electronics, AC to DC Rectifiers, DC to AC Inverters, DC to DC Converters, AC to AC Converters, IGBT, fuel cells, and/or electric drive E-powertrain product(s) experience.+ Experience with Cadet, Caterpillar Electronic Technician, J1939, and Vector tools (i.e.: CANape / CANalyzer).+ Ability to gather relevant information, compare, contrast, and quantify data, identify relationships, and predict and manage failures is critical.+ Thorough knowledge of various electronics test equipment and manufacturers of that equipment, such as battery cyclers, sequencers, & emulators.+ Proven experience in troubleshooting and resolving complex electrical system issues and malfunctioning components.+ Experience with New Technology Introduction and/or New Product Introduction and Change Management for new technology systems and products.+ Strong analytical ability to make informed decisions from historical test data.+ Proven ability to perform complex assignments, prioritize workload, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.+ Excellent Microsoft Office Skills (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).+ Excellent English, including written and verbal communication, one-on-one, and in larger settings.**Top Candidates Will Also Have:**+ Advanced degree, such as a master's in electrical engineering.+ Experience with Power Systems, Power Electronics, and/or Electric Drive / E-Powertrain products that are used in Caterpillar Energy & Transportation (E) or Resource Industries (RI).+ Experience in electronics product design, development, simulation, and analysis.+ Experience with capital expenditures and managing capital projects (for electronic test equipment).+ Familiarity with Caterpillar manufacturing facilities, processes, equipment, systems, and suppliers.+ Ability to be a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.+ Ability (after on-the-job training) to safely operate testing equipment and tools as needed.+ Ability to communicate technical information effectively and lead concept design reviews.+ Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and collaboration skills are required in order to develop cooperative working relationships, deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.**Additional Information:**+ This position will close on 11/30/2022 at 11:59 p.m.+ This position is located in Mossville, IL, Lafayette, IN, or Griffin, GA but alternative work locations near a caterpillar facility may be considered.+ Moderate travel (20-40%) will be required as necessary, with more travel occurring during the first few years as the E Manufacturing footprint is developed.+ Relocation assistance is available (U.S. Only).**Employee Benefit Details:**Our goal at Caterpillar is for you to have a rewarding career.
